Overview

Nestled in the heart of Kampung Sri Paya, Kulai, Kedai Makan Man Ting Fong stands as a charming beacon for lovers of authentic Hakka cuisine. This Chinese restaurant, known for its cozy and clean environment, offers a genuine taste of Johor’s culinary heritage. Whether you’re a local or a curious traveler, the experience here is tailored to those who cherish traditional flavors presented with sincerity.

The star attraction at Man Ting Fong is undoubtedly the Hakka Lei Cha, a fragrant, herbaceous thunder tea soup crafted from a blend of green tea, mint, basil, and an array of fresh vegetables. This dish is both refreshing and deeply satisfying, capturing the essence of Hakka culture in every sip. Accompanying it is the Cai Ban (vegetable kuih), a delicacy praised for its soft, chewy texture and rich, savory filling that linger delightfully on the palate. These two offerings encapsulate the heart of the restaurant’s menu and are essential for anyone seeking an authentic regional dining experience.

The menu also features traditional favorites like Yong Tau Foo and fried pork, which, while decent, serve better as complementary dishes rather than main attractions. The homemade yong tau foo, especially the bean curd and brinjal with rich fillings, is often sought after but can sell out quickly, adding a sense of exclusivity. The chai kueh here is another highlight—thin-skinned dumplings with flavorful fillings such as sengkuang, chives, and leek, offering a textural contrast and a burst of savory notes appreciated by many visitors.

Patience is a virtue at Man Ting Fong; the authentic preparation methods mean waiting times can stretch to 45 minutes or more during peak hours. Yet, this wait underscores the commitment to quality and traditional cooking techniques. The space itself is comfortable and inviting, making it an ideal spot for families, cultural food enthusiasts, and those who appreciate a slower, more mindful dining pace.

Located at Lot 8098, Jalan Kelapa Sawit 6, this restaurant serves a niche audience passionate about preserving and savoring Hakka culinary traditions. The rustic ambiance paired with meticulously prepared dishes creates a dining experience that feels both nostalgic and refreshing.

For those willing to journey a little off the beaten path, Kedai Makan Man Ting Fong offers a rewarding taste of Johor’s Hakka heritage—especially through its signature Lei Cha and Cai Ban. It’s a culinary pilgrimage that celebrates culture, community, and the enduring charm of traditional flavors.

Man Ting Fang is a wonderful spot for authentic Hakka cuisine, offering a dining experience that is both comfortable and clean. If you are looking for traditional flavors, this place is a must-visit! The Dishes The star of the show here is definitely the traditional Hakka Leicha (擂茶). Hakka Leicha with Soup (4/5): This is a dish you must try! The soup is fragrant, refreshing, and perfectly balanced, making it a standout choice on the menu. Cai Ban / Vegetable Kuih (菜粄) (5/5): An absolute winner! The Cai Ban is perfectly executed—soft, chewy, and packed with savory vegetable filling. It truly deserves its perfect score. Fried Meat and Yong Taufu (3/5): While the quality is decent, these items are standard and not the highlight compared to the spectacular Leicha and Cai Ban. They offer good side flavors but might not be the primary reason for a visit. Overall Experience The restaurant offers a great overall package: fantastic traditional food in a pleasant setting. Definitely prioritize the Leicha and the Cai Ban!

Love the main dish here which is the green tea thunder rice that comes with individual serving of hot green soup blended from combination of mint, basil and other green vege. U can choose to go with it - homemade yong tau foo. Super yummy fillings - we got the beancurd and brinjal. The rest must have been soldout. Also love the chai kueh here too. Smooth silky thin skin chai kueh with 3 types of filling - sengkuang, chives and leek. They sell out fast. Sorry no photo of the chai kueh - we ate them up before we managed to take photo! The chai kueh is full of flavour, good enough to eat without chilli sauce. They have the most fantastic local grown avocado (Indonesian species). It's huge compared to the Australian ones. Price is not cheap but I feel it's worth it. Bought 3 pcs for rm31.

After placing order you’ll have to wait another 45min to 1 hour during peak period. Food is good. Travelled far to be told some items have been sold out :( Nonetheless worth a visit for good leicha.

Sunday ride to Kulai to try out this famous Hakka restaurant, not too much crowd as we reached ard 8am. We ordered mixed YTL, zha rou, cai ban and and ban mian. My personal favourite is the brinjal stuff with meat and cai ban (chives), super delicious. The rest of the stuff tasted good too. I ordered thin noodles with soup, they cooked with the manis leaf thus very authentic. Will come back again to try the lei cha and cai ban (turnip).

It's a Hakka food spot located in a housing area, where they served very good leicha. If you're not a fan of leicha you can also have pan mee, Hakka noodles with zha rou. Do not forget to add the Hakka yong taufu and chives dumplings. The yong taufu is Hakka style where they used minded meat instead of fish paste. My favorite is the chives dumplings. Yumss.

Reached here at about 9am on a weekday morning. The place was still quite empty but it was definitely getting hot. My favourite was definitely the 菜板. I loved all 3 flavours - leek, chives and turnip (mang guang). The mang guang was especially juicy and sweet. If taking away in bulk, highly recommend pre-ordering and bringing your ice pack to keep it fresh. The leicha was also very good. The gravy is made fresh. Yong Tau Foo is also good. Did not have the stomach to try the ban mian but i heard it is good. Must come early morning on weekday to avoid the crowd and heat
